Literacy:
In Literacy this term we are focusing on a film study with the key learning outcomes for the students being able to use evidence from the film and through class discussions develop understanding of the authors decisions. The students may have explained to you that we are watching snippets of 'Wonder' instead of reading the book to which we had a discussion about the importance of being able to analyse both digital and physical evidence (books and movies). The overarching moral of this movie is "When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind", this is a beautiful reminder of always finding the good in everything.
We are half way through our film study and students are looking forward to watching the film in a few weeks. Our next topic focus will be Greek Myths and Mythology.
Maths
Our focus for the next 4 weeks is Fractions. We have been exploring the concepts of improper fractions and mixed numbers. Student have learnt how to identify an improper fraction and acknolwedge that the numerator must be bigger than the denominator to be classified as improper. Students have then extended their learning to convert the improper fraction to a mixed number which signifies how many wholes and how many parts remain.
We have also played '6 Cards, 4 Operations' which got 5 out of 5 stars! This teaches students how to use multiple operations - addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to create a whole number. It is an excellent recall activity.
ART
Our self portraits are well underway and will be finished this week (Friday)! Students are using their paper drafts to create their self portrait paintings, this is teaching students to come up with an idea and to refer back to their original draft when all of the excitement of painting begins. They are looking incredible and I cannot wait for you to finally view them.
