Visual Arts on Heights

It has been a wonderful start to the year in Visual Arts at the Heights Campus. As the new Visual Arts teacher from this year, and with specialist training in Visual Arts, I have been busy preparing the art room for an engaging and creative year ahead. New materials have been organised and storage spaces carefully set up to ensure resources are accessible and ready for student use. There is a real sense of excitement as students wonder what the new art classes will look like, and I am extremely excited to begin this new role and share the year’s learning with them. Although specialist art classes have only officially begun this week, plenty has already been happening behind the scenes to prepare for a creative and exciting year ahead.

What’s Been Happening in Visual Arts? The art room has been reorganised and refreshed, with new displays, materials, and workspaces set up ready to welcome students. Time has also been spent getting to know the different year levels and preparing engaging learning experiences to support students as they begin their Visual Arts journey for the year. Some of our Foundation students have already started visiting the space as they adjust to life at school, exploring the art room and becoming familiar with routines and expectations. It has been lovely to see their curiosity and enthusiasm as they begin to feel comfortable in this new school environment.

This term, our focus in Visual Arts is Drawing and Collage. Students will begin the term by creating a self-portrait, which is an important starting point for the year. Middle and Senior Learning Centre (MLC and SLC) students are also creating their individual art portfolios, where they collect and store their artworks throughout the year to reflect on their learning and creative growth. I am excited to work with our students in Visual Arts this year, exploring creativity, self-expression, and a wide range of materials and techniques. I can’t wait to see the amazing ideas and projects that will come to life in the classroom!
