Safety & First Aid News 

Across Casey, we are increasingly seeing students under 16 arriving at school using e‑scooters and certain e‑bikes, despite these not being permitted under Victorian road rules. During peak school times, this has resulted in unsafe behaviours, with a heightened risk to students, pedestrians, and road users. These concerns are shared by schools, families, and the broader community, particularly considering the increased risk of serious injury when helmets are not worn or rules are not followed.

Thinking of buying an e-scooter? 

Not all e-scooters are legal. 

A legal e-scooter must : 

• Have a max speed capability of 25 km/h 

• Only be ridden by 16+ years and wear a helmet 

• Only be ridden at a max speed of 20km/hr 

• Have two wheels, a handlebar and a footboard 

• Weigh under 45 kg.

Thinking of buying an e-bike?

A legal e-bike must : 

• Have working pedals 

• Be max 250W and cut out at 25 km/h (EPAC) 

• Not have a throttle that powers over 6km/h (EPAC) OR 

• Be max 200W (power-assisted bicycle)

In additional to our material, the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) has partnered with the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) and Victoria Police (VicPol) to launch a social media campaign focused on e-rideable rules, safe behaviour and purchasing.

SCHOOL CROSSING CONCERNS

City of Casey Council have contacted the school re School Crossing concerns, in particular of drivers blocking and not stopping behind the white line to keep the School Crossing Clear (mainly on Browns Road).

This is incredibly dangerous behaviour and places children and school community members at risk.  Please see below infromation from the City of Casey.
