Middle School – Term 3

Term 3 has been a very busy and exciting one in Middle School, with plenty of learning, laughter and memorable experiences along the way!

🏕️ Camp Arrabri

From Wednesday 5 August to Friday 7 August, our Middle School students and teachers enjoyed an action-packed few days away at Camp Arrabri in Warburton. The students embraced every opportunity to challenge themselves, try new things and have fun with their friends.

During camp, students took part in a range of exciting activities, including the flying fox, giant swing, archery and mini golf. They also enjoyed making damper, panning for gold and learning how to bush dance! On our journey home, we made a special stop at Healesville Sanctuary, where students had the opportunity to get up close to some amazing birds of prey.

We were incredibly fortunate to have so many wonderful parents join us on camp. Their support, enthusiasm and willingness to get involved helped make the experience even more enjoyable for everyone. A huge thank you to our parent helpers!

🎤 Concert – A Journey to 70

On Tuesday 18 August, we celebrated Cranbourne South Primary School’s 70th birthday with our whole-school concert, A Journey to 70. Our Middle School students and teachers had been working hard for weeks, rehearsing and preparing for their performances.

Each class took inspiration from a different moment or milestone in our school’s history:

• 3A took us back to the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
• 3B celebrated coming out of the COVID-19 lockdowns.
• 3/4C showcased the introduction of our new school values.
• 4A focused on our new school value, Respect.
• 4B took us on a journey through the demolition of our old school building.

The students did an absolutely amazing job on the night! From their creative costumes to their enthusiastic performances, they should all be incredibly proud of the way they represented Middle School. It was a wonderful celebration of our school’s history and a fitting way to mark 70 years of Cranbourne South Primary School.

Senior School– Term 3 

We have had a fantastic Term 3! Students have embraced new challenges across the curriculum and have shown enthusiasm, persistence and a willingness to learn. It was wonderful to see their confidence and hard work on display during the school concert. 

Literacy 

In Literacy, students have been developing their persuasive writing skills through engaging topics such as What is the best sport? and Is technology making our lives better? They have been strengthening their arguments by using persuasive devices and developing well-structured TEEL paragraphs. 

Students have also been learning to write engaging information reports, focusing on researching relevant information, organising ideas clearly, using subject-specific vocabulary and varying their sentence structures. 

A continued focus on sentence grammar and fluency has seen students developing their understanding and use of compound and complex sentences. It has been fantastic to see them applying these skills to make their writing more detailed, cohesive and engaging. 

Mathematics 

In Mathematics, students have been exploring fractions, decimals, percentages, multiplication and division, developing their understanding of the connections between these concepts and applying efficient strategies to solve problems. 

Students have also been investigating area, volume and capacity through practical activities and real-world problem-solving. Our weekly Maths Challenge continues to be a favourite, with students demonstrating fantastic persistence and determination as they tackle increasingly challenging problems. 

Inquiry – Earth and Space Science 

This term, students have been exploring Earth and Space Science, investigating the relationship between the Sun, Earth and Moon and learning about the phases of the Moon. Creating models has helped students visualise these concepts and develop a deeper understanding of our solar system. 

Students have also taken on an exciting space innovation challenge, designing and building an invention to support space exploration. This hands-on project has encouraged students to combine their scientific knowledge with creativity, collaboration and problem-solving skills. 

We look forward to seeing the innovative space solutions our students have created when they present them to class at the end of term!
