Kitchen

It’s been a busy few weeks in our kitchen classroom with so many wonderful recipes, smiling faces, and delicious smells filling the air. Here’s a little taste of what’s been cooking:

🥧 Grade 5 & 6 Extended Cooking Program

Our extended program with the Grade 5s and 6s has been a huge success!Run by myself and our principal, the students have been exploring new skills, ingredients, and recipes.

Highlights this fortnight:

👨‍🍳 Grade 5s cooked Portuguese Tarts — making custard from scratch and working with delicate filo pastry. They also created delicious pasties, learning to cut and roast veggies, and brown onion, garlic, and chicken mince like pros!

👨‍🍳 Grade 6s tackled an impressive Pumpkin Risotto and even a Cheese Soufflé — making white sauce and whisking egg whites was a challenge, but the students did an amazing job!

🍝 Junior Kitchen Fun

Our  grades have been busy too:

  • Grade 1s made colourful playdough.

  • Grades 2 & 3 had a ball making pizzas — learning how to knead dough and choose healthy toppings.

  • Grade 5s whipped up Brownies, Caramel Slice (a huge hit!), and Spaghetti Bolognese.

  • Grade 6s hosted Taco Tuesday, making their own Mexican seasoning from scratch.

🥙 Kitchen Garden Goodness

The students have loved using fresh silverbeet from our garden in recipes like Silverbeet & Cheese Quesadillas, pizzas, and pasties.

🌿 The garden’s looking lush, and we’re excited to plant broccoli next!
