Grade One

General:
Our Grade 1 students have returned with great enthusiasm, kicking things off with Active April. A big congratulations to all who took part. Your energy and commitment were truly impressive!
We also came together as a school community to honour ANZAC Day with a thoughtful and respectful ceremony. The students engaged in meaningful activities that helped deepen their understanding of Australia’s history and values.
In the lead up to Mother’s Day, classrooms were buzzing with excitement as students prepared heartfelt celebrations for their mums and special loved ones. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of Oatlands’ very first Mother’s Day Morning Tea. It was wonderful to see so many happy faces and joyful moments shared.
Finally, a special shoutout to our students for their kindness and excellent manners during the annual Mother’s Day Stall. You should all be very proud of your efforts!
English:
This term, our Grade 1 students have been hard at work developing their writing skills, with a focus on understanding the purpose and structure of information reports. They’ve truly impressed their teachers with the fascinating facts they've uncovered about different countries and cultures. Through this learning, students have also deepened their understanding of the difference between facts and opinions. As the term continues, they will explore more factual texts during reading sessions, helping them prepare to write their very own information reports later in the term.
Mathematics:
Grade 1 students have continued to demonstrate fantastic effort and perseverance in Mathematics this term. Over the past few weeks, they’ve participated in a range of open-ended tasks designed to revisit and strengthen their understanding of key concepts. These activities have encouraged students to take ownership of their learning and challenge themselves further.
Using a variety of hands-on materials, students have explored topics such as data, time, and shapes. Investigating how these concepts appear in everyday life around the classroom and school. It’s been wonderful to see them so engaged in meaningful, real-world learning experiences.
Integrated Studies & RRRR:
In Integrated Studies, our Grade 1 students have been exploring the concept of social justice by celebrating differences and learning to appreciate the rich cultural diversity within Australia. Through discussions and activities, they’ve been developing a deeper understanding of how to show respect and kindness toward others from all backgrounds.
Alongside this, students have continued to build their social and emotional skills through our Friendology program. They’ve been learning about friendships, exploring different emotions. What they are, how they feel, and how to respond to them in healthy ways. It’s been inspiring to see students grow in empathy and emotional awareness throughout the term.
