Prep

It’s hard to believe we are already halfway through Term 2! Our Prep students are all now very familiar with school life and are coming along in leaps and bounds. We are so proud of the incredible growth we are seeing, both academically and socially. From developing early reading and writing skills to building friendships and learning how to work and play together, it has been a joy to witness their progress.
Here’s a rundown of what we have been learning:
In Literacy, we have been exploring information reports and procedural texts. This has been the students’ first exposure to non-fiction texts at school. We were very impressed with their information reports on frogs and to introduce procedural texts we made and ate jam sandwiches. Whilst making our sandwich we discussed the steps using sequencing words like first, next and then. It was a fun, delicious and hands-on way to connect literacy with real life experiences.

In Numeracy, we have been exploring addition and subtraction, and using these skills to participate in Maths Problem Solving. Our Prep students have been exposed to problem solving strategies including Make a Model and Draw a Diagram. These strategies will encourage students to develop lifelong mathematician skills.
Our Integrated focus this term is community, which has allowed the Prep students to get to know important members of our School Community and identify ways they can help us. As part of this focus, students went on a walking tour of the school to identify where they can find our helpful community members, such as our fantastic leadership team, the wonderful Jodie in the kitchen and the generous office staff.
It has already been a busy term with some special events taking place. Our Preppies loved shopping for their Mum at the Mother’s Day Stall and enjoyed welcoming them into our classrooms for a special activity. It was a lovely way to celebrate our Mums and to say thank you for everything they do for us.

The Preps also experienced National Simultaneous Storytime for the first time. They loved being part of this nationwide event that celebrates the joy of reading. It was a wonderful way to share a love of stories with the rest of the country!

The fun never stops in Grade Prep and we couldn’t do it without the support of our wonderful families. Thanks for coming along for the ride!
