Principal Report
It’s hard to believe we’re already over the halfway mark of Term 2! Time certainly flies when our wonderful school is buzzing with energy, learning, and meaningful experiences. The Principal Team has especially loved visiting students in their classrooms over the past few weeks. It’s been a joy to see the high levels of engagement, creativity, and collaboration taking place across all year levels. As we move through the term, it’s wonderful to reflect on the many opportunities our students have embraced—both in and beyond the classroom.
At Oatlands, we are proud to offer programs and initiatives that nurture both the academic growth and wellbeing of our students. Over the past few weeks, our students have taken part in a range of engaging experiences that support their learning and development in meaningful ways.
Life Education Program
Our classes thoroughly enjoyed their Life Education incursion, with a highlight being the much-anticipated visit from Harold the Giraffe. These interactive lessons focused on making healthy choices, developing respectful relationships, and understanding personal safety. The engaging delivery ensured our students came away with valuable knowledge and practical life skills.
Reconciliation Week
This week, our Oatlands community came together to acknowledge and celebrate Reconciliation Week. Students took part in a variety of classroom activities designed to deepen their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures. Picture story books were shared to spark meaningful discussions, and many students enthusiastically joined in a lunchtime scavenger hunt that connected them to key reconciliation themes.
Friendology – Building Positive Relationships
Our Friendology program continues to play a vital role in our Wellbeing curriculum. Students have been Oatlands Friendship Ninjas and have revisited the Four Friendship Facts, helping them build and maintain positive relationships. Friendology lessons provide practical strategies for navigating friendships and resolving conflicts. We encourage families to further support this learning at home by registering for the free URStrong Parent membership, which offers helpful resources and insights.
Every Day Counts
Regular school attendance is vital to every child’s educational success. At Oatlands, we prioritise and actively promote consistent attendance, as every day offers important opportunities for learning, friendships, fun, and growth. Being present in class means students are part of the full learning experience alongside their peers and teachers.
While we understand there will be times when absences are unavoidable, we encourage families to schedule appointments and holidays outside of school hours whenever possible. If your child is feeling uncertain about school due to friendships, learning challenges, or changes to routine, it’s important they still attend—support is available, and avoiding school can often make worries feel bigger.
If your child is having difficulty attending, please reach out to their classroom teacher. We’re here to help. For further information, visit the Attendance and Missing School resource. Remember, Every Day Counts.
Child Safe Practices at Oatlands
The safety and wellbeing of our students is our highest priority. At Oatlands, we are committed to providing a child-safe environment where all children feel safe, respected, and supported. We encourage all families to visit our school website to view our Child Safe Policies and Procedures, which outline the measures we take to ensure student safety across all areas of school life.
Your feedback on these policies is welcome, and we value your partnership in maintaining a strong culture of safety and care.
Thank you for your continued support as we work together to create a learning environment where every student feels connected, supported, and empowered to thrive.
