Foundation & Year 1

Foundation and Year 1 students have been building their keyboard and computer skills. Foundation students have been exploring the layout of a laptop keyboard, learning where different keys are located and developing confidence using a computer. Year 1 students have taken the next step by practising correct finger placement and learning to return their fingers to the home row as they begin developing efficient touch-typing habits.

Year 2

Year 2 students have been exploring how the Reduce, Reuse and Recycle strategies help protect our environment from plastic pollution. Students investigated the design features of recycling bins around our school and discussed how these help prevent plastic waste from entering our waterways. Using classroom materials, they designed and constructed their own recycling bin features while explaining how thoughtful design can support a cleaner and healthier environment.

Year 3

Year 3 students have been investigating heat energy and how it can be measured. They learnt how to accurately use thermometers to record temperatures in degrees Celsius and compared the temperatures of different materials. Students also explored how heat transfers between objects through direct and indirect contact, using scientific vocabulary to explain their observations and predict how temperature changes occur in everyday situations.

Year 4

Year 4 students have been designing the transport of the future by investigating sustainable forms of transport and considering how they can reduce environmental impacts. They explored real-world examples before creating annotated design sketches of their own sustainable transport solutions. Students then extended their designs by incorporating important safety features and identifying the infrastructure needed to support safe and sustainable travel.

Year 5

Year 5 students have been exploring the fascinating behaviour of light. Through practical investigations, they discovered how light can be transmitted, refracted, dispersed, absorbed and reflected by different materials. Students recorded observations, analysed their results and strengthened their scientific writing by explaining how different materials interact with light using accurate scientific language.

Year 6

Year 6 students have been learning about digital footprints and the importance of staying safe online. They investigated the different types of data collected by digital platforms, including personal, health, location and biometric information, and explored how this contributes to a person's digital footprint. Students also examined common online risks such as identity misuse, privacy breaches and cyberbullying, while developing practical strategies to protect their personal information and make safe choices in digital environments.
