Leadership Report
Dear CPS Community,
It has been a big couple of weeks since the last newsletter we have a new Minister for Education, the Hon. Gabrielle Williams. We look forward to working with Minister Williams.
Today is Principals' Day. A big thank you to the wonderful display of gratitude from the staff, students and parents. It is a pleasure and privilege to lead Craigieburn Primary School with my Principal class team for the past 6 years. We look forward to continuing this journey with you.
Our Community Events and Fundraising team are preparing for our Father’s Day Stall. This event will be on Thursday 3rd & Friday 4th September. As in previous years, there will be many items within a range of prices $1 - $10 for students to choose from for their special person.
We are again hosting our annual CPS Market Night! This year, the event will run on Friday 13 November 3.30 pm – 7.30 pm, so please save the date. Planning and preparation are already well underway. We are looking to secure live music to provide a vibrant backdrop to the evening, making it a fantastic night out for the whole family. We are excited to welcome back many of our wonderful stallholders from last year. If you would like to run a stall this year, please reach out to our administration staff for details on how to get involved
Ryan Peik, our visiting artist, has completed the first of six murals. We have engaged professional mural artist Ryan Peik, who has been creating specialised artworks across Melbourne for the past 10 years to paint some of our exterior classroom walls. Ryan is renowned for his stunning landscapes, native flora and fauna, and large-scale murals that celebrate the natural environment.
Following an initial consultation, we identified six brick wall spaces across the school—Community Hub, Rooms 3, 5, 7, 16 and 18—that have the potential to be transformed through a series of murals inspired by the local flora and fauna of the Craigieburn area. We believe these artworks will significantly enhance the appearance and atmosphere of our school grounds while celebrating our local environment.
Ryan has now completed his work outside Room 3, and our students have already had many conversations with him in passing about the work. We are very excited to see how the work progresses over the next few weeks.
Upcoming AEU strike action
Following our teachers' recent strike action, the next planned strike day is scheduled for Wednesday 19 August.
If a resolution is not reached before this date, we will provide you with timely updates regarding which classes will be running and which will be affected.
We understand this creates uncertainty for families and appreciate your patience as we navigate this process. We will continue to keep you fully informed
CPS teaching staff, many of whom are members of the Australian Education Union, met this week to discuss potential industrial action measures. These measures may impact certain administrative and non-essential tasks, including:
- Withdrawing from compiling, formatting, and organising school newsletter content.
- Pausing the creation of formal Education Plans for non-funded students.
- Delaying responses to non-urgent parent emails (responses will remain immediate where student safety or wellbeing is a concern).
As a direct result, newsletter updates from individual grade levels may be limited moving forward.
We highly value the dedication of our staff and respect their right to navigate this process. I will keep our school community updated as negotiations regarding teacher pay and working conditions unfold.
Recent Attitude to School Survey (AToSS) data indicates an upward trend in student responses compared to the previous year. To achieve this, a new implementation strategy was used: the survey was administered within small group settings. This represents a significant shift from our historical practice of whole-class administration and has yielded highly positive outcomes.
