Problem Solving

Students have been learning a range of problem solving techniques to apply when confronting personal, social and ethical dilemmas. They have been engaging in scenario based learning tasks to practise their problem solving skills in relevant situations.

The Importance of Problem Solving for Health and Wellbeing

Problem solving is an important life skill that supports our mental and emotional wellbeing. When children and adults develop the confidence and ability to calmly work through challenges, they are better prepared to manage everyday stress, make thoughtful decisions  and feel more capable and in control when faced with difficult situations.

Here’s how problem solving supports health and wellbeing:

  • Builds confidence – helps children feel capable
  • Manages emotions – helps children stay calm
  • Builds resilience – helps children keep trying
  • Reduces stress – helps children cope with challenges
  • Builds relationships – helps children solve problems with others
  • Encourages independence – helps children make good choices

Stress Management

Students have been working on considering the causes of stress and on developing a range of self regulation and coping strategies they could draw on to manage stressful situations.

The Importance of Managing Stress for Health and Wellbeing

Stress is a normal part of everyday life, but too much stress can affect our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. Learning healthy ways to manage stress is an important life skill for both children and adults. Simple strategies such as talking to someone we trust, taking deep breaths, being active, getting enough sleep and making time to relax and have fun can help us feel calm, balanced and ready to manage life’s challenges.

Here’s why managing stress matters:

  • Helps us feel calm
  • Supports our wellbeing
  • Improves our mood
  • Helps us cope with challenges
  • Reduces worry and anxiety
  • Helps us sleep better
  • Improves focus and learning
  • Keeps our body and mind healthy

Help Seeking

Students have been learning how to support their peers, ask for help and connect others with support.

The Importance of Help Seeking for Health and Wellbeing

Knowing when and how to ask for help is an important part of staying mentally, emotionally, and physically healthy. Help seeking is a strength, not a weakness and it's a key skill that supports wellbeing throughout life. By encouraging open conversations and showing that it’s okay to ask for help … whether it’s for schoolwork, friendships, or emotions … we will continue to build a culture of care and trust that supports everyone’s health and wellbeing.

Here’s why help seeking matters:

  • Helps us feel supported
  • Helps us solve problems
  • Reduces stress and worry
  • Helps us feel safe
  • Builds confidence
  • Supports our mental health
  • Reminds us that we are not alone

Problem solving, managing stress and seeking help are important skills that support us in everyday life. Problem solving helps us feel more in control, while managing stress helps us stay calm and focused. When challenges become difficult, asking for help allows us to get the support we need. Together, these skills help us manage challenges in healthy and positive ways.
