Bullying No Way Week
This week is the national “Bullying No Way Week. This year’s theme “Small Acts, Big Impact” reminds us that actions don’t need to be big to change someone’s world.
Small actions – like including someone, speaking up or showing kindness – can create meaningful change in our schools and communities. Our goal is to build environments where everyone belongs and bullying is never accepted.
Play Equipment
The new play equipment and soft fall has been installed at the Junior School. Last week we met with the builders, architect and VSBA representative to identify the defects and are now awaiting rectification of the identified items. We have a site meeting this afternoon and are hoping to be told when the equipment will be handed over to us.
Once it is handed over, we will have a roster for year levels to be able to use it on certain days. This will be done purely for safety reasons.
As I am sure you can imagine, once the playground is available to the children they will all want to play on it and having up to 200 children all vying for a spot will not work. Like any new thing, the desire to play on it will wane and we will take the restriction off.
Comedy Night
On Friday night we shared lots of laughs at our annual comedy night. Our comedians definitely kept us entertained with their very amusing stories and jokes. The night is always a great opportunity for parents to get together and have some fun.
Huge thanks to Jason Sofra who once again organised the night. He liaises with one of our regular comedians, Adam Rozenbachs, to ensure we have a great line up of comedians. This year he also organised an acoustic guitarist who entertained us before the comedians. Thanks also to Dale Adams who assisted Jason setting up the room on Friday afternoon, and to the staff who helped out on the bar.
Book Week
Next week is Book Week, which is promoted by the Children’s Book Council of Australia. The week focuses on children’s literature and celebrating Australian authors. This year the theme of the event is “Symphony of Stories”.
To celebrate Book Week, we have a jam-packed, whole school event day, planned for next Thursday August 27th. The children can come dressed as their favourite book character. Information about the day has been sent out to families via Compass.
Parent Opinion Survey
At the beginning of the week, we sent out information to all families asking them to complete an Education Department survey. If you received an invitation to take part in the survey, please be aware that it closes on Friday September 18.
Wear It Purple
On Friday August 28th the students can wear a purple accessory to support Wear it Purple Day.
Wearing something purple is a way of showing your support for LGBTQIA+ young people, not only in August but every day!
Hats
With Spring fast approaching, the sun is out and with that comes the requirement to wear a hat.
The sun protection measures listed in our Sunsmart Policy state that all students and staff should wear a hat when the UV rating is 3 and above from 1 September to 30 April.
Students must wear a royal blue school hat. Parents can buy a bucket hat from the school Uniform Shop. The children can also wear a royal blue broadbrimmed hat.
Students are not permitted to wear a baseball style hat.
Parents, please make sure your child has a clearly named hat in their bag at all times from September 1st. Students who do not have a hat will be restricted to playing in an undercover area.
If your child needs a new hat, you can order one on Compass.
