The Briars - Sustainability in Action

The grade 1/2's loved exploring The Briars last week, visiting the Sustainability House to discover the impact that we have on our earth and clever ways to look after our planet. We also enjoyed a self‑guided wander through the homestead buildings. We saw the external of the original house, owned by Alexander and Emma Balcombe, built in the 1840's, and were able to peek through the windows. It is currently under renovation so we could not go inside. We also saw how they lived very differently to us, with an underground well, out house, servants quarters, laundry, silo and apple coolstores all as separate buildings. We also saw some old farm equipment and machines that would have been pulled by horses. The children enjoyed having a look at the pumpkins and rhubarb growing in the vegetable garden and running through the fields. It was a wet, but very fun day out.

Frankston Library Visit

Our class enjoyed a wonderful visit to the library this week to celebrate National Simultaneous Storytime. The children were excited to join thousands of students across Australia in sharing the story Luna Roo. They explored the library, had a look at the 3D printer and return chutes and went on a scavenger hunt. It was a joyful way to celebrate reading together and build excitement for books, stories and community.

Talk Time - Community Helpers

Last week, for Talk Time, the children shared about different Community Helpers. We had Ella (doctor), Chris and Penny (nurses), Miss Aurelia (teacher), Henry (librarian) and Luna (zoologist). These children fully embraced the learning opportunity and entertained our class with their presentations.

Maths - Subtraction

The grade 2's have been hard at work learning about subtraction with regrouping. They've been using concrete materials to help grasp the concept.

Congratulations Chase

Recently Chase participated in the Great Ocean Road Running Festival. He ran 1.5km in the Kids' Gallop. Chase brought his medal in to show the class. He tells us he had a lot of fun running alongside his mum.

Wow! What an effort, we are very proud of you Chase!
