LCM Regional Athletics
Well done to all of our students who represented the school at the Loddon Campaspe Mallee (LCM) Regional Athletics on Monday. The competition was fierce, with some of the best athletes from Central and Northern Victoria competing across a range of events.
A special congratulations to Sonny R and Max H, who both won their respective events, with Sonny taking out the 200m and Max winning the hurdles. Both students have qualified for the State Athletics Championships, to be held at Lakeside Stadium in Melbourne on 29 October. Sonny also finished an impressive second in the 100m, qualifying for the state final in this event as well. An outstanding achievement!
Hudson C was our other podium finisher, claiming a fantastic third place in the 1500m.
Our relay teams also performed superbly, with both teams finishing fourth in their respective events:
- 11 Years Girls Relay: Grace F, Remi M, Violet H and Evie D
- 11 Years Boys Relay: Lenny F, Thomas A, Perry J and Sonny R
Other notable results included:
- Dusty M: 4th in the 9/10 Years Girls 1500m
- Lenny M: 8th in the 11 Years Boys Long Jump
I would like to congratulate all of our students on their achievements and, importantly, on the way they represented themselves and our school throughout the day. Their effort, sportsmanship and positive attitudes were a credit to our school community.
A big thank you also goes to Mr Parkes for his assistance with supervising and organising the students on the day.
Congratulations to everyone involved, and best of luck to Sonny and Max as they prepare for the State championships!
Auslan News
Welcome to Term 4 of Auslan!
Hopefully your child/ren were able to teach you a little about National Week of Deaf People at the end of last term which was celebrated during the school holidays from 21st – 27th September! The theme this year was: ‘Declaring Deaf People’s Human Rights.’ It has been nice hearing from some students who noticed things in the community or had stories to share about the different ways they recognised this celebration, which celebrates Deaf communities, their language, culture, history and achievements. Some students were lucky enough to see the Conservatory lit up in BLUE (Turquoise; the colour of sign languages!) on the 23rd September for International Day of Sign Languages!!
We have started this term with some revision in all classes. Students were able to choose what signs they wanted to practise from our previous topics through different Auslan games and activities.
G3-4s in particular revised their topic on House Items, before presenting PowerPoints they made at the end of last term, to lead their peers in sign-practise.
Please enjoy some photos of students presenting their PowerPoints last week, in their small groups:
This week all classes have started their new topics.
Grades Preps are focusing on learning and practising the Auslan Fingerspelling Alphabet A-Z to practise introducing themselves and fingerspell their names.
G1-6s are all focusing on different Handshapes used in Auslan signs this week. Students have been playing Memory and Matching games with Handshape Pictures & Name cards.
