Beginning Well

A Secondary Community Engagement Evening

As part of our Welcome Week schedule of events, we warmly welcomed parents of students in MECS Secondary to attend a start of the year information evening on Monday 16 February.

This was a wonderful opportunity for parents to connect with Leadership, Teaching and Pastoral Staff in MECS Secondary.

The evening started with a welcome from Emma Allison, Head of Secondary, who presented her deep hope for 2026:

“That all students in 2026 will ‘flourish in learning & community, with parents alongside and that they will know and be known'."

Her challenge was for parents to understand what it means for children to truly flourish; that it is not to be protected from challenges, but embrace them, and to work for the good of the whole community, not themselves.

Following this introduction, parents selected from sessions on Year level programs, a presentation about our teaching and learning framework, and an important session around the wellbeing of young people growing up in the digital age.

This latter session purposefully reminded parents of the important home-school partnership we must uphold together in leading and guiding our young people around appropriate technology use, forming healthy digital habits to improve wellbeing and helping them to have discerning engagement around the messages received through social media and other digital platforms. More information and useful tools can be found at https://mecs.onlinesafetyhub.com.au

Parents were also invited to explore the Qustodio Parent App in helping to monitor and manage their child's online activity and device usage. We strongly encourage all parents to download and utilise the Qustodio App.

For questions related to this please email Rob Price.

We warmly welcome parents who were unable to attend to reach out to their child's Year level Coordinator via email with any questions about any aspect of the Year level program or to connect around their child's learning or accessing support in relation to Qustodio.
