David's Message

Dear Sunshine Heights Parents and Carers,

Every year, our staff go through professional learning on any updates to and critical reflections on the Child Safe Standards. This work is essential to ensure all our students are cared for in an environment where safety is prioritised and staff are aware of the different referral pathways for wellbeing.

You might have seen the new look Library and the stunning new furniture that has been provided for your students to learn on. This term Lauren, our amazing Visual Art Specialist will be working with one of our parents, Tam, and lots of our students to produce a beautiful mural in the library. Watch this space!

Tuesday this week brought with it the delivery of our temporary toilets that our students are now using, with the old toilet block fenced off and undergoing the start of the building works. During the next few months we will have these temporary toilets, and once the new block is completed and signed off, the temporary toilets will be removed. During these months the walk way from the front of the school to the central open area will be blocked off, with access only for dropping off bikes at the bike rack.

One of our special community events took place on Thursday 19th February, with our Prep Picnic. During the event our families gathered under the tree at the front of the school, had their faces painted by the awesome Miss Jasmine, and listened to the lyrical talents of our amazing Mr Anthony. Students were also treated to my daughter's favourite story, How to Be a Lion by Ed Vere, a story about finding your strength without being fierce. It was so lovely to connect with our families and see how well the preps have settled, and our epic staff members (Wellbeing AP Mrs McMahon, specialists Senorita Vargas, Miss Lauren  and Mr Elliot) and I loved being able to mingle and connect.

If you haven't had a chance to yet, please book in for parent teacher interviews next Tuesday via compass, sign up your child for the Colour Run fundraising page, and if you are interested in school council, please pop by and see me soon.

Best wishes,

David and the entire Sunny Heights Team
