Year 5 & 6

We Did It! What an Achievement, Year 5/6!

After weeks of rehearsals, countless run-throughs, learning lines, practising dances and more than a few moments of wondering whether it would all come together, the Year 5/6 students took to the stage for Yarra Road Primary School’s Production of Alice in Wonderland - and what an incredible job they did!

There was so much to be proud of. The Year 5/6 students took on the major acting roles in the Production, bringing the many weird, wonderful and colourful characters of Wonderland to life. From the very first rehearsals to the final performance, an enormous amount of work went into preparing for those few precious hours on stage.

There were forgotten lines, missed entrances, hilarious mistakes, props that didn’t always cooperate and dances that needed to be practised again…and again…and maybe just one more time! There were moments that had everyone laughing and others when it seemed there was still an enormous amount of work to do.

But that was all part of the journey. As production week approached, something wonderful began to happen. Lines were remembered, characters came to life, dances came together and confidence grew. The pieces of the puzzle started falling into place. Then came the moment to step onto the stage at the George Wood Performing Arts Centre... and the Year 5/6 students absolutely shone.

It takes an enormous amount of courage to perform in front of a theatre full of people. Whether students had a major speaking role, performed as part of a group, danced, sang or helped bring a scene to life, every Year 5/6 student contributed to the success of the production.

Perhaps even more impressive than the performances themselves was the way the students worked together. They helped each other remember cues, encouraged nervous friends, celebrated one another’s successes and learnt that when everyone plays their part, something pretty special can happen.

For the Year 6 students, Alice in Wonderland was also their final Yarra Road Production  - making those last moments on stage particularly special.

The journey from those first rehearsals to the final curtain demonstrated just how much can be achieved through persistence, teamwork, courage and a lot of practice.

There were great moments. There were funny moments. There were definitely some “Are we EVER going to be ready?” moments! But when it mattered, the Year 5/6 students stepped up and delivered. The lines have been learnt, the dances have been danced, the curtain has closed and the costumes can be packed away.

Year 5/6 – be incredibly proud. All that hard work paid off. You did it!
