What an AMAZING week we have just had after our students participated in their very first whole-school Production of ‘Alice in Wonderland’. Two fantastic technical rehearsals at the George Wood Performing Arts Centre at Yarra Valley Grammar School and two magnificent nights of performances (Cast 1 and Cast 2).  We are so proud of all our students who demonstrated resilience, perseverance and excellence to perform their songs ‘In a World of my own’, ‘Golden Afternoon’ and the finale. A huge congratulations to all our Preps for all their hard work. They really did shine on the night. Well done and a huge thank you to Mrs Ashleigh Smith, our amazing Performing Arts teacher.

This week in Literacy, we have been reviewing short 'a' and short 'o' sounds in words. We have been revising the heart words 'he', 'be', 'me' and 'from'. In Writing, the children have enjoyed recounting/retelling about their weekends. In Comprehension, we have been using mentor texts, such as ‘Hattie and the Fox’ and ‘Wombat Stew’, to focus on the skills of predicting, inferring and making connections to other texts, the world and their own personal experiences.

In Maths, we have been learning about addition and subtraction using number bonds, number lines and counters. Students recognise that their addition facts help them with their knowledge of subtraction.

In Integrated Studies, we have been learning about special places to us, like national parks, gardens, beaches etc. and learning about being responsible for keeping these places beautiful and clean of pollution. We have also looked at the impact these have on our animals and their environments. We learned about the importance of recycling, picking up our rubbish and keeping plastics out of our waterways and oceans, and the damage these can have on our oceans and marine life.  We learned that every single person can make a small difference with their contributions to make our special places stay ‘special’ in the future.
