 House Reading Challenge Pizza Lunch

Four months of intensive reading for students in Year’s 7 – 9 culminated last Friday 11 September, with the Pizza Lunch and Trivia Challenge. Kalinda House were this year’s victors, scoring 554 points overall and Mr Longer’s 8C English class read the most minutes of any class overall. They, the individual winners and this year’s Reading Legends – those students who read 10 or more books over the four month – were also present for the celebrations. 

Emmy accepted the Readers Cup trophy on behalf of Kalinda House and the individual winners - Emmy from 8C who read 167 books, Evie from 8E who read 115 books and JB from 8H who read 90 books - were presented their prizes by Mrs Harris. 

After a tasty pizza lunch there was a trivia challenge for the students based on some of the books that featured in this year’s reading challenge. The trivia brought out the students’ competitive side, vying for a lollypop if they answered correctly, and the trivia questions really tested some of their memories. The students finished the event incredibly motivated for next year and we can’t wait to see what will happen. 

A big thanks goes to the English teachers for their support and encouragement to the students as they read and logged their reading and most importantly, bringing them to the library to borrow. We have broken all records this year and it has been a fantastic challenge.

Books and Brownies

The final session of Books and Brownies was held on Thursday 17 September with around a dozen students attending. Hot chocolates and brownies were of course on offer, as well as some great discussions on books we are currently reading. The session concluded with students again, having the chance to borrow first from the new books, which are now on display in the library. Books and Brownies will return for Term 2 and 3, 2027.
