What's On In 1/2

Year 1/2 Excursion to Scienceworks
Our Year 1 and 2 students recently enjoyed an exciting and engaging excursion to Scienceworks, where they explored a range of interactive science exhibits and live demonstrations.
During the visit, students learned how clouds and rainbows are formed through a fascinating science show. They also explored the concept of static electricity, with much excitement as they observed Riley’s hair standing on end and confetti jumping from her hands! Students were amazed to see how quickly her hair returned to normal once she touched the ground, helping them understand how static electricity works.
The experience continued with a thrilling lightning show, where students discovered how lightning travels through different materials. They also learned how structures such as buildings, cars, and aeroplanes are designed to keep us safe during lightning storms.
After the show, students explored the Sportsworks exhibit, where they tested their reaction time, strength, and balance through a range of fun, hands-on activities. They then visited the Think Ahead exhibit, which encouraged them to consider how the world has changed over time and imagine what the future might look like.
Literacy Learning - Winter’s Blanket
In Literacy, students have been exploring the text Winter’s Blanket, engaging in a range of activities to build their understanding of language and storytelling.
Students began by closely observing images from the text, identifying nouns and expanding them into detailed noun groups. They described what objects were doing and used these ideas to create rich sentences. This helped students develop their descriptive language and deepen their understanding of how authors create vivid imagery.
Students further developed their understanding of grammar by identifying parts of speech, including nouns, verbs, adjectives, and pronouns. They then applied this knowledge by creating their own sentences, inspired by the author’s style and structure.
It has been wonderful to see students building confidence in both their reading and writing as they explore language in creative and meaningful ways.
