DAT Newsletter: Amplifying Student Voices for an Inclusive Greensborough College

Exciting news! Our Disability Education Team (DET) has evolved into the Disability Advocacy Team (DAT)! This name change reflects our renewed focus on empowering students and amplifying their voices in shaping an inclusive school environment. This year, we're committed to putting student perspectives at the heart of everything we do.

Student-Led Advocacy Takes Centre Stage!

In 2024, Greensborough College launched its first "For Students, By Students" disability advocacy group, marking an important step towards a more inclusive school environment. This group, driven by passionate students, is dedicated to fostering a school culture where all students feel supported and empowered to thrive. This initiative will be further strengthened through collaboration with the Student Representative Council (SRC), working together to achieve even greater outcomes.

What Does the Student Advocacy Group Do?

This dynamic group is taking action through a range of impactful initiatives and events, including:

  • Staff Awareness: Student-led workshops designed to educate staff and promote a deeper understanding of disability and inclusion.
  • Student Education: Engaging Connect sessions and other whole-school events to raise awareness and celebrate diversity.
  • Bullying Prevention: Implementing streamlined and safer reporting processes to ensure a respectful and supportive environment.
  • Advocacy: Proactively identifying and addressing accessibility issues within the school, championing positive change as needed.

Get Involved! Your Voice Matters!

Everyone is welcome to participate, regardless of disability or level of involvement. We understand that barriers to participation exist and we want to remove them. Here's how you can contribute:

  • Attend Weekly Meetings: Join us every Wednesday at lunchtime in the Wellbeing Meeting Room.
  • Join our Microsoft Team: Connect with fellow advocates, contribute to ongoing projects, and access valuable resources.
  • Reach out to staff who are involved.

Have Questions?

Don't hesitate to reach out to us! We're excited to collaborate with you to build a more inclusive and supportive Greensborough College for everyone.
