CEO's Welcome

Congratulations to our Year 7s

As we near the end of Term 1 I want to congratulate all of our students – and in particular our new Year 7 students – on a brilliant first term of learning in Melbourne.  For our Year 7s, the past two months have been a time of great personal growth, curiosity and most of all courage – that MITS value that articulates the immensity of their decision to school away from home, family and Country.

I know I speak for all of our MITS staff and community when I say what a privilege it has been to get to know our Year 7s and work together with their families this term.  We are already excited for next term!

Big ShoutOuts – Celebrating our Staff

MITS is fortunate to be driven day-to-day by an exceptional team of committed staff members.  In 2025 we have established a new MITS practice of acknowledging and thanking our staff who live our values and go above and beyond in their work.  We are calling it our Big ShoutOut.

Each week, one staff member receives a ShoutOut from a colleague which is shared across MITS. The following week they get to nominate the next Big ShoutOut recipient.  It is staff led, peer celebrated and MITS rewarded through a small weekly token of our gratitude.

I am very happy to celebrate our Big ShoutOut recipients so far in 2025:

  • Rhiannan Parker (Transition Manager)
  • Chloe Lane (Assistant Manager, Senior Girls Boarding)
  • Trish Apiti (Senior Boarding Coordinator, Year 7 Boarding)
  • Brad Carmody (Principal, School Team)
  • Alex Brien (Student Counsellor, Senior Fellas)
  • Rory Newton (Boarding Coordinator, Senior Fellas Boarding)
  • Tom Mitchell (Assistant Manager, Senior Fellas Boarding)
  • Harrison Bentley (Boarding Coordinator, Year 7 Boarding  and Senior Fellas Boarding)
  • Kavaro Lelesi-Ward (Boarding Coordinator, all houses)
  • Rehana Haggie (Learning and Careers Mentor, Senior Fellas)

These people are living our MITS values and leading by example in their care for our MITS students. Congratulations to each of you!

283 Church Street Teaching and Learning Space

Finally, I’m delighted to share that renovation works at our new teaching and learning space – 283 Church Street – are nearly complete, and we are on track to move into the space over the Easter break in time for the start of Term 2.  It is a fantastic new space which will provide so much for our students, allowing up to seven individual learning groups to operate independently and concurrently, while also offering space for science, art, cooking and event pottery.  We will share more on the new space one it opens in Term 2.

To our MITS families, I hope you have a very happy holiday break with your young people at home. Students will travel to Melbourne for Term 2 on Tuesday 22 April – if you have questions on travel arrangements please be in touch with your Boarding House Manager.
