What a fun and busy time in Performing Arts! Check out all the action below as classes across the school move from their Drama units to Music Theory units for the remainder of Term 2.

Foundation students continue to explore the music we hear, create and experience in the world around us. There has been a strong focus on movement and maintaining beat, with students enjoying 'call and response' tasks that require them to echo back note patterns through body percussion (clap and stomp) and using untuned percussion instruments. They were all a little tired after Cross Country last week, so we took the opportunity to explore music for relaxation, taking some mindful time to rest our bodies.

Grade 1 and Grade 2 are presenting their Fairytale Drama performances this week and next, but it was lovely to enjoy some ribbon fun for a music break last week. Grade 2 students flitted and floated around the Hall to classical music, exploring how they can use their bodies and materials to physically represent what they hear. They had so much fun and are keen to use the different ribbons again, something we can incorporate into our music learning in a variety of ways.

Grade 3 and 4 have shown wonderful teamwork to plan, write and organise their own dramatic scenes. Based on moments of crisis with Earth's natural resources, the unit has been a wonderful opportunity for students to use knowledge from their Inquiry unit as a base for their dramatic performances. Focusing on communicating a range of character emotions, students should be proud of all they have achieved across their unit!

Grade 5 and 6 have had a busy time, with their performance of Let'sTALKitOUT! last Thursday signalling the end of their Term 1 Drama unit. With all students contributing to the performance through their production teams, it was a wonderful display of cooperation and collaboration. We welcomed a HUGE audience to the Hall, and despite some technical issues, the show was a fantastic success! Thank you to Jetha at Let'sTALK for the opportunity he gave our senior students, and well done to all who played a part in getting this pilot program off the ground!
