Year 2 News

Back in Time!

The Year 1/2 students have been learning about the history of Ormond Primary School. They have discovered so many interesting things, including that our school is over 100 years old, many buildings have been added over the years, and how different the old school uniforms looked.

We even found a  students workbook from the early 1960s, before Australia changed to the metric system!

Our most surprising discovery, however, was the Ormond Primary School Book of Corporal Punishment. Inside was a register listing the teachers who had permission to carry out the punishment. It also recorded the names of children who were punished, the dates, the reasons for the punishment, and how many straps on the hands they received.

On Thursday afternoon, Sue and Roz (our crossing ladies) will be visiting Ormond Primary School to share some of the school’s history with us. Between them, they have worked at the school crossings for nearly 60 years, so they have seen many changes over time! We are currently thinking of some interesting questions we can ask them.
