From the Principal

Dear families,
We are officially halfway through Term 2! While the past two weeks have been a little quieter, there is still never a dull moment here at OPS.
It was a joy to attend the District Cross Country at Karkarook Park with our OPS team. All students should be incredibly proud of their efforts and the way they represented our school. We congratulate Bonnie and Hana on progressing through to the Division Cross Country event on 27 May.
Student Representative Council
I am very excited to be assisting with the running of SRC this year. It is an important leadership opportunity for students to represent their class, share ideas and contribute positively to our school community. We want our students to know that their voice is important and will be heard.
Our learning communities are currently wrapping up class speeches, and we look forward to announcing our 2026 SRC representatives soon.
ACARA Item Trial – NAPLAN
OPS was selected by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) to participate in this year’s Item Trial. The purpose of the trial is to evaluate potential NAPLAN test questions (‘items’) for possible use in future NAPLAN assessments.
We thank the students in Year 3 classes 34W and 34P, along with students in Year 5 classes 56E and 56W, for completing the trial this week.
Reports and Parent/Teacher Interviews
As previously communicated, we are currently reviewing and refining some of our reporting structures as part of the early adoption of upcoming Departmental changes. However, due to the current industrial action, written comments will not be included in Semester 1 reports. While current industrial actions have been suspended following the in-principle agreement, the ban on written report comments remains in place. These changes do mean that we will be placing increased significance on Parent/Teacher Interviews as an important opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and learning.
Parent/Teacher Interview bookings will go live next week. Interviews are scheduled for Tuesday 16 June from 3:45pm–6:45pm and Wednesday 17 June from 1:30pm–4:45pm. Interview slots will be 10 minutes per child, with one booking available per family for each child.
I will provide further information to families via Compass next week.
Foundation Enrolments
Our new Foundation enrolments board is up and looking fantastic! Please help spread the word that we are now accepting enrolments. Families can book a school tour using the QR code on the board or via our website.
Missing Pram
A black stroller/pram was found in the playground on Tuesday morning and has not yet been claimed. We are sharing this notice in case a family has misplaced theirs and is unsure where it may have been left. If it belongs to you, please contact the school office.
Please keep reading to learn about the many wonderful updates, achievements and initiatives happening across our school.
Have a wonderful weekend.
With thanks,
Anna-Marie
