Dear Families, 

This week, students explored R U OK? Day, with students wearing a touch of yellow to recognise this important day. We focused on the importance of checking in with others and encouraging positive conversations about mental health and wellbeing. Students discussed how to notice when someone may need support, how to ask “R U OK?” in a caring way, and the importance of listening and speaking with a trusted adult when extra support is needed. We encourage families to continue these important conversations at home.

Year 4 in Term 3:

Religious Education:

In Religious Education, students will complete a post-assessment to demonstrate their understanding of “Concealed in the Old, Revealed in the New.” They will reflect on their learning about Catholic traditions, with a particular focus on the Eucharist, and make connections between Scripture, symbols and the traditions celebrated in the Catholic Church. 

English:

Next week in English, Year 4 students will continue developing their narrative writing skills by exploring The Arrival by Shaun Tan. They will examine key narrative features, including characters, setting, problem, events and resolution, and use these elements to plan and create their own engaging narratives. 

Mathematics:

Next week in Mathematics, students will be learning to measure, draw, convert and calculate lengths and perimeters accurately. They will apply their knowledge of measurement units and use a range of strategies to solve practical problems involving length and perimeter.

Integrated Curriculum:

In Integrated Studies, students will celebrate their learning by presenting their polished drama performances to the class. They will use purposeful drama choices, stay in character and communicate their characters’ thoughts, feelings and perspectives to an audience. Students will also reflect on their growth as performers and revisit the unit’s Big Inquiry through the Inquiry Wall. 

Auslan:

Next week in Auslan, students will review and consolidate their learning from throughout the term. They will practise using a range of signs for verbs, explore key differences between Auslan and English sentence structures, and participate in signed games and activities to apply their skills and build confidence in communicating in Auslan.

Social & Emotional Learning:

In Social and Emotional Learning, students will explore the importance of personal safety and respectful relationships. They will learn to recognise different types of harmful behaviour and early warning signs that may indicate an unsafe situation. Students will also develop their understanding that everyone has the right to feel safe and know when and how to seek support from a trusted adult.

Important Classroom Reminders:

• Fidget Toys

  We kindly ask that students do not bring fidget toys to school unless their use is a planned adjustment in consultation with Allied Health Professionals. Students who bring fidget toys without an approved adjustment will be asked to place them in their school bag for the remainder of the day to take home. We appreciate your support in encouraging your child to leave fidget toys at home.

• Please ensure that you are labelling all your child's belongings.
