Dear Families,

This week, students recognised R U OK? Day by wearing a touch of yellow and discussing the importance of checking in with others and having positive conversations about wellbeing. 

Today, students also found out their cabin and activity groups for camp, which has created lots of excitement and anticipation for next term! If you have any questions or queries regarding camp, please reach out to your child’s teacher.

Learning in Year 5 for Term 3:

Religious Education:

In Religious Education, students explored how the Holy Spirit is revealed in Scripture through the stories of Mary, Pentecost, and the disciples. They reflected on how the Holy Spirit guides Christians to live out Gospel values and practise the Fruits of the Spirit in their daily lives. Through prayer and discussion, students considered how they can promote peace, kindness, and reconciliation in their relationships and communities. 

English:

In English, students will be developing their narrative writing skills by planning and writing their own stories. They will use key narrative features, including characters, setting, problem, events and resolution, while combining historical elements from Melbourne in the 1890s with imaginative and magical elements to create engaging narrative 

Mathematics:

In Mathematics, students will be learning to plot coordinates on a Cartesian plane in the first quadrant. They will practise constructing a Cartesian plane and accurately locating and plotting points using coordinates.

Integrated Curriculum:

In Integrated Studies, students will consolidate the drama skills and knowledge developed throughout the unit. They will apply their learning by presenting a final puppet performance, using characterisation, movement, voice and expression to communicate meaning to an audience.

Auslan:

In Auslan, students will consolidate their learning by using depicting signs to show actions, movement and objects. They will also create short signed stories and explore values within the Deaf community. 

Social & Emotional Learning:

In Social and Emotional Learning, students will explore what respectful behaviour looks and sounds like. They will identify different types of harmful behaviour, recognise early signs of disrespect and practise respectful ways to respond to challenging situations. 

Important Classroom Reminders:

• Fidget Toys

  We kindly ask that students do not bring fidget toys to school unless their use is a planned adjustment in consultation with Allied Health Professionals. Students who bring fidget toys without an approved adjustment will be asked to place them in their school bag for the remainder of the day to take home. We appreciate your support in encouraging your child to leave fidget toys at home.

   

• Please ensure that you are labelling all your child's belongings.

   

• Year 7 Enrolment St Peter’s College 2028

  St Peter's College has advised that enrolments for 2028 are filling quickly, with only limited places remaining. If you have not yet submitted your child's enrolment application for St Peter's College for 2028, we encourage you to do so as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Please note that enrolment at St Thomas the Apostle does not guarantee a place at St Peter's College.

• Year 5 Camp to Mill Valley Ranch will be on 12th-13th October. Wednesday 14th October is a student free day for year 5 students. Year 5 teachers will not be at school on this day.
