Junior School Bulletin

As I write this article, we are travelling back to Brisbane following what has been a wonderful week in Canberra with our Year 5 and 6 students. The Canberra Educational Tour provides a rich extension of classroom learning, bringing history, government and citizenship to life in meaningful and engaging ways. 

Throughout the week, our students embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm, curiosity and maturity. Whether visiting significant national institutions, engaging in educational programs or simply navigating the challenges and excitement of travelling together, they represented Clayfield College exceptionally well. It has been a pleasure to witness their growth, resilience and positive attitude across what has been a very full and rewarding four days. 

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the staff who generously gave their time to make this experience possible. In particular, thank you to Mrs Bryan, Mrs O'Brien, Mr O'Rourke, Miss Baigrie and Mrs McPherson for their care, dedication and commitment to our students throughout the tour. Experiences such as this require significant preparation and time away from family, and we are deeply grateful for the many staff who continually go above and beyond to provide outstanding opportunities for our students. 

Lost Property

This is a final reminder for families to check the Lost Property collection located outside the Junior Administration Office. 

A number of unnamed or unidentifiable items remain unclaimed, including uniform items, hats, drink bottles and lunch containers. Families and students are encouraged to take a few moments to look through the collection if they are missing any belongings. 

Please note that any items remaining at the end of term will be redistributed during the school holidays. 

A reminder that clearly naming all belongings remains the simplest way to ensure items are returned to their owners promptly. 

Looking Ahead to 2027 Class Allocations

A reminder that in early in Term 4, we will commence planning for our 2027 class allocations. Class formation is one of the most important and complex processes we undertake each year, with significant time and professional consideration given to creating balanced classes that support the learning, wellbeing and social development of all students. 

Families will have the opportunity to share information they believe may be important for us to consider. Further information regarding timelines and the process will be communicated early next term. 

Semester 2 Co-curricular/Group Photos

Term 4, Week 1 - Wednesday 7 October and Thursday 8 October 

Please see below for the Semester 2 Co-Curricular/Group Photo schedule.

• Parents/Students please check the schedule for photo time and uniform requirements. 
• Students must arrive promptly for the time noted in the schedule. 
• Students appearing in photos which require the Summer Formal Uniform, Sports or a specific uniform (i.e. QGSSSA) to be worn, must have the correct uniform, including correct jewellery, no make-up, neat hair and green ribbons, to appear in their photo on the day.  
• Students not in correct uniform will be unable to be in their photo. 

Note: 2026 is the final year in which the previous Clayfield College uniform may be worn in official College photographs. 

Co-curricular/Group Lists 7 to 12: photo schedule and group lists (when finalised) will be published in student daily notices.

Year 3 Twilight Experience 

Friday 16 October from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. 

This experience forms an important part of our students' preparation for the transition to an overnight camp experience next year. We look forward to sharing further details soon. 

End of Term 3

As we reach the end of another busy and successful term, I would like to thank our students, families and staff for their support, partnership and enthusiasm throughout Term 3. It has been a term filled with learning, growth, community events and memorable experiences, and I am grateful for the positive contribution each member of our community makes to Junior School life. 

I wish all families a safe, restful and enjoyable holiday break and look forward to welcoming students back for Term 4 on Tuesday 6 October, following the King's Birthday Public Holiday. Thank you once again for your ongoing support of the Junior School. 

Pre-Prep to Year 1 Games Morning

What a fun-filled morning our youngest students enjoyed at this week’s Games Morning! With the enthusiastic support of families cheering from the sidelines, students rotated through a series of athletics challenges, including sprints, high jump, long jump and throwing events, with short breaks in between. A particular highlight for many students was the noisy chicken race and the ever-popular sack race, which brought plenty of laughter and excitement throughout the morning. 

A sincere thank you to Ms Amy Lewin for coordinating this wonderful event, with support from our Sports Department and Maintenance team. We also extend our thanks to Mrs Ebonney Woolnough for developing students’ skills and confidence during HPE lessons, and to all the staff and family members who helped make the morning such a positive and memorable experience.

Save the Date

Prep and Year 1 Swimming Exhibitions 

Parents and carers of Prep and Year 1 students will be invited to attend their Swimming Exhibitions on Tuesday 10 November. The times for each class event will be communicated in the Collective closer to the time. 

Year 3 Excursion - Caboolture Museum

On Friday 11 September, our Year 3 students enjoyed a fabulous excursion to the Caboolture Historical Village as part of their HASS unit exploring how people, places and technologies have changed over time. Throughout the day, students stepped back into the past as they visited the Transport Museum, the Old Schoolhouse and a range of interactive displays showcasing everyday life in earlier times. They learned about the evolution of transport from horse and cart to aeroplanes, discovered how children were educated in the past and explored how communities accessed water, light and other essential services before modern conveniences existed. 

Some of the highlights of the day included sitting in the tiny Old Schoolhouse (after singing ‘God save the King’) and imagining what it would have been like to learn there many years ago, riding the village train and listening to fascinating demonstrations about old pumps, engines and machines. Students were captivated by the stories and descriptions of how these machines worked and enjoyed the opportunity to handle historical objects during the washing demonstration. The excursion provided a memorable and engaging way for students to deepen their understanding of how people’s lives have changed over time and the contributions of innovation and technology to our modern world. 

Year 6 Art Incursion with David Wells

During Week 9, our Year 6 students were fortunate to participate in a special Art incursion with highly accomplished artist David Wells. During this engaging half-day workshop, David shared his expertise in realism and portraiture, teaching students how to build effective underlayers to create realistic skin tones and depth within their artwork. Through hands-on demonstrations, modelling and specific individual feedback, students developed their artistic techniques and gained valuable insights into the creative process. The growth in their skills has been impressive, and their self-portraits are coming together beautifully. What a wonderful opportunity and memorable experience for our Clayfield students! 

Clayfield College Book Fair

Our Junior School Book Fair, in partnership with Where the Wild Things Are, will run from Wednesday 14 October to Wednesday 21 October. Families can support our school library by purchasing books in a variety of ways:

• Visit the bookshop at 191 Boundary Street, West End and mention that you are part of the Clayfield College community. 

   

Parents are also warmly invited to visit the Book Fair in the LRC from 8:00am to 8:30am each morning from Wednesday 14 October to Wednesday 21 October, and from 3:00pm to 3:30pm each afternoon from Wednesday 14 October to Tuesday 20 October. Purchases made through the Book Fair help raise valuable funds for our library while fostering a love of reading in our students. We look forward to seeing our students discover their next great read!
