Book Week 2026

Book Week 2026 is coming!!

Term 3, week 7, Monday 24th-Monday 31st August, 2026

Book Parade: Friday 28th August, 9am, Hall (all welcome!)

This year’s theme is “Symphony of Stories”

Is there anything more exciting for a school to receive than a delivery of beautiful new books for the staff to promote a love of reading and highlight local authors and illustrators?

In preparation for our Book Week celebrations in Week 7 this term, we have purchased a collection of notable, shortlisted books, chosen by the Children’s Book Council of Australia for their literacy and artistic merit, and suitable for primary aged students. These books have been prepared for the library, and are on display in the teacher workroom, available for our staff to read and include in their weekly literacy programs. Following Book Week, these titles will be available for students to borrow from our school library.

At St Cecilia’s, we have a few well loved traditions that occur during Book Week.

 This year, St Cecilia’s Book Week celebrations will include

• Mystery Reader invitations issued for some junior classrooms
• Sharing of shortlisted books in class by classroom teachers
• The St Cecilia's Book Week Parade on Friday 28th August, from 9am (Hall), where students are encouraged to dress up as a character from their favourite book (perhaps bring a copy of the book along, too).
• A visit from an award winning Tasmanian author, Lian Tanner, on Monday 31st of August, who will speak to the junior classes about her picture story books, and to the seniors about her children’s novels. 

We cannot wait to share this week with your children, and hope that Book Week 2026 is a week of discovery, enthusiasm and creativity for all involved.
