Celebrating 100 Days of School
Our Foundation students had a fantastic time celebrating their 100th Day of School! The morning was filled with excitement as the children participated in a range of fun, hands-on activities centred around the number 100.
A sincere thank you to our wonderful parent volunteers who generously gave their time to help with the morning activities. Your support made the day run so smoothly and created a memorable experience for our children.
A very special thank you to Aimee Johnstone for her incredible generosity in baking over 75delicious cupcakes for all of our Foundation and Year 6 students. The cupcakes were the perfect way to celebrate this milestone. Thank you Aimee for making our day extra special.
Year 5 / 6 News
Year 5/6 ‘Kids in Space’ Learning Journey
Our Year 5/6 students were incredibly fortunate to welcome Douglas Bair from Plants 4 Space to St Cecilia's as part of our exciting Kids in Space learning journey.
Douglas captivated the students with fascinating insights into how scientists are preparing for future missions to Mars, with the goal of landing humans on the Red Planet in the 2030s. Students discovered the vital role plants will play in supporting life in space by providing food, oxygen, clean water and even helping with astronauts' wellbeing during long missions.
The session was highly interactive, with students exploring the unique challenges of growing plants beyond Earth. They then put their creativity and problem-solving skills to work by designing and creating their own innovative plants that could help people live successfully in space.
It was an inspiring and engaging experience that sparked curiosity, encouraged scientific thinking, and gave our students a glimpse into the exciting possibilities of space exploration. A huge thank you to Douglas Bair and Plants 4 Space for sharing their expertise and inspiring the next generation of scientists, engineers and space explorers!
Year 3 News
Year 3 Update
Some weeks are bursting with exciting events, and Week 3 of Term 3 was certainly one of them for Grade 3!
We participated in our very first Hoop Time event at Nunawading Stadium and loved the opportunity to play, cheer one another on and represent our school.
We were also fascinated to learn about Roo-ver, an incredible Australian engineering project that is set to travel to the Moon in 2030. It was inspiring to discover how engineering teams use many different skills to design, build and test new machines.
Another highlight was an afternoon dedicated to exploring what it means to show respect for ourselves, others and the environment. Through a range of fun activities, students identified some important messages:
“Our school has zero tolerance for disrespect.”
“Remember to be respectful to others.”
“Stand up for people who may not be treated kindly.”
“Explain the rules of a new game so that everyone can join in.”
The excitement continues! We are looking forward to welcoming our grandparents and special friends on Friday, followed by a visit to the First Peoples exhibition at Melbourne Museum next week. In preparation, we have been learning about Bunjil the Eagle, the significance of possum-skin cloaks, and creating Dreaming-inspired stories influenced by the work of Gregg Dreise.
Year 2 News: Learning All About Energy
Natalie Shanahan and Sarah Hamblin came to talk to the Year 2's about saving energy and they told us all about how energy is made. We learnt some facts about how we can save energy.
1. Riding a bike helps keep the world clean because when we drive a car you could waste electricity.
2. Turning off lights when you leave the room saves electricity.
3. Having a bath is better than using a shower because a bath doesn't use as much water.
We learnt about renewable energy that is made from wind, water and the sun and non -renewable energy that will eventually run out like coal.
We loved the presentation from the mums. They gave out some great prizes too.
We learnt a lot. Thank you Natalie and Sarah.
