Principal's Report

Dear St Cecilia's Community,

The beginning of Term 3 has been a real celebration of community at. The yougest members of our community celebrated being part of our family for 100 days. The Foundation students 100 days festivities were the culmination of the support and care they have received from their families, the St Cecilia's staff, their Year 6 buddies and each other.

We were also very fortunate to have a number of groups and individuals from the wider community, including the Melbourne football club, scientists and engineers working in the space industry and parents working in various professions, reach out and share their knowledge and skills with our students, helping them to see beyond just the school and local community, to understand that they are all part of a much larger interconnected world.

These experiences of community culminated in a truly heart warming and inspring celebration of Grandparents and Special Friends Day. It was so inspiring to see in excess of 300 grandparents and special guests join us at school today to engage with our students. At the same time our parent community pulled together to manage the logistics of hosting and providing a wonderful morning tea.

Community was the word that I heard over and over again in the glowing praise from our guests who all reflected on what a special place they felt St Cecilia's was. It is something that I absolutely know to be true about our school, however it really did hit home that the connections, support, love, care and faith shared and experienced by all those who are part of our school, is something that we should treasure and never take for granted. 

Grandparents and Special Persons Day – Friday 31 July

Our Grandparents and Special Friends Day was full of special moments, proud smiles, laughter, hugs and warm cups of tea.

Our Year 6 leaders were outstanding in their welcome of our guests at our introductory assembly before guiding them to classrooms around the school.

Our classrooms were then brimming with proud grandparents and relatives, all immensely proud of the children they had come to be with for the morning.

After returning to the Hall for morning tea, the atmosphere of welcome and hospitality was extended by our Year 1 and 2 parents. The grandparents were also serenaded by the Year 2 choristers, who shared a couple of their favourite songs from their weekly sing along sessions.

Thank you again to everyone who made it such a positive expereince for students and special guests alike. St Cecilia's STEM Learning Setting Sights on the Stars!

As part of the Kids in Space program, we were lucky enough this week to have a visit from Mr David Scott who works for Lunar Outpost Oceania, a company that is working on what will be Australia's first moon rover, due to be sent to the moon in 2030. Dave shared some of the rover prototypes with our Year 3-6 students.

The students (and teachers) were completely enthralled by Dave's presentation and had a lot of very thoughtful questions about the project.

We hope that many of our students will have been inspired to dream big about the types of careers and opportunities that are open to them in the areas of STEM.

Melbourne Demons Visit and Special Offer

Also during the week we had six players from the Melbourne Football Club come and speak to our students. The players spoke to the students about the very important role First Nations people have played in the origin and development of the game, showing the students examples of the possum skin balls called Marngooks, that were part of an indigenous game that is said to have inspired Australian Rules Football.

Once again the students had lots of wonderful questions for the players about what it is like to be a professional athlete.

Semester 2 SRC

Last week we announced our Semester 2 SRC members. Congratulations to all our representatives and we look forward to the valuable contributions you will make in your roles this semester.

Parents’ Association Update - A busy start and lots happening in Term 3

It has been a busy start to the term with both the Mid Year Function and Grandparents Day huge events for the the St Cecilia's community.

A big thank you to all those who contributed to making these events so successful.

A special thanks to Elle Cusack for her coordination of the Parent Function, which from all reports was a wonderful night.

VCEA Advocacy For Government Investment in Catholic Schools

Below is a letter from the Victorian Catholic Education Authority outlining the work that is currently underway to secure a funding commitment for capital investment in Victorian Catholic schools.  This would support ongoing improvements to our schools and provision of new schools. Please take the time to read the letter.
