New Library Student Survey

Students, including our new 2026 Year 7s, were invited at the end of 2025 to complete a survey about our brand-new library opening in term 3, 2026.

This was their chance to have a say in what they would like to see in the new space and to express their interest in joining the New Library Launch Team.

All participants received PBS credits, and two winning entries for each year level were awarded canteen vouchers.

Our winning library survey entries:

2025: Will 7E, Marita 7A, Robabeh 8A, Insha 8D, Asma 9D, Arcain 9B, Roya 10D, Lizzy 10B, Atlas 11A and Shogofa 11F

2026: Harini 7C, Levon 7B,

A summary of what our students are hoping for in their new library space:

Our 2025 survey revealed that about half of our students find books by browsing the shelves, followed by a quarter by recommendations from friends, another quarter by asking library staff, and a smaller number use the library catalogue.

Fantasy leads the way in student genre choices, followed by Mystery & Suspense, Adventure, Horror, and Realistic fiction.

When it comes to book requests, our students are crying out for more Manga!

The majority (84%) of our students would like books organised in genre sections. There is ample research showing that genre sections support reluctant readers and browsers.

Study On is popular in library club choices, followed by Book Club, Board & Card Games, Manga, and Craft Club.  Our students are also asking for comfy seating and quiet zones for studying and reading.

2026 Year 7s Survey Results:

About half of our new Year 7s shared that they mainly browse shelves to find books, followed by recommendations. The Wings of Fire series and Manga books are popular. Our new year 7s are mainly requesting Study On, board & card games, and Book Club. They would like there to be comfy seating, quiet zones for studying and reading, and a self-check-out for book loans.

BIG Summer Read

To combat the 'summer slide' in literacy over the holidays, Public Libraries Victoria offered a Statewide reading program to children up to 18. Our college library jumped on board with this important reading and literacy initiative. All students were invited to read and record five books from 1 December 2025 to 31 January 2026. We also asked for a short book review on one of the books they read.

Participants were awarded certificates, canteen vouchers, credits, and our lucky draw winner, Anna Koulas 10F, a book of her choice to keep! Participants: Emily 7G, Leah 7G, Shahla 9D, Shumaila 9D, Anna 10F, Atlas 12D
