Sony Camp recap

While many were beginning their school holidays, 35 Mount Alvernia College students joined students from Marist College Ashgrove, staff and medical volunteers to help create an unforgettable experience for 20 campers at this year's Sony Foundation Camp.

Across three action-packed days, campers enjoyed a wide range of activities including a bubble workshop, reptile show, swimming, arts and crafts, disco, vehicle display, ten-pin bowling, movie night, cricket, magic show and plenty of delicious food. Laughter, excitement and genuine connection were at the heart of every moment.

For our students, the camp was not only a chance to bring joy to others but also an invaluable opportunity to grow in empathy, patience and service. As companions to children and young people with disability, they quickly learned that the most important part of the experience was responding to the individual needs of their camper.

We are incredibly proud of our students, who demonstrated extraordinary kindness, resilience and commitment throughout three very warm Brisbane spring days. Their willingness to place the needs of others before their own reflected the Franciscan values that sit at the heart of a Mt A education.

Our sincere thanks to Marist College Ashgrove for their partnership over the past 20 years, and to the many staff, volunteers and medical professionals who made the camp possible. We also acknowledge the support of Deputy Principal - Faith and Mission, Mr Bobby Bracken, whose commitment helped ensure another successful and meaningful camp experience. Thank you also to our staff volunteers Simone Roche, Claire Hatchman and Rasika Flux for their time and commitment to Sony Camp.

Sony Foundation Camp continues to be a powerful reminder of the impact that can be made when young people choose compassion, service and inclusion. It was a weekend filled with fun, friendship and unforgettable memories for everyone involved.
