During Science Week in Term 3, we explored the national theme, ‘Seeds of Science: Nurturing knowledge for all’. Students designed models of dispersing seeds and tested how they flew in our new vertical wind tunnel. Home rooms also took part in a grow-a-sunflower competition, exploring how growing conditions affect sunflower growth.

At their second leadership day at the University of Queensland, our UQ Science Ambassadors, Hannah and Ava, accepted a trophy on the school’s behalf recognising 20 years of participation in the Science Ambassador program. The program is open to Year 11 students with a passion for science. We encourage current Year 10 students to consider participating in 2027.

In Year 7 Science, students investigated forces by designing and building balloon-powered vehicles, then testing how their designs performed. Year 8 STEM students presented their microbiology investigations to invited guests and families, explaining the questions they explored, the problems they faced and what they discovered. Both projects gave students opportunities to test ideas and communicate their findings.

We wish our Year 12 Science and PE students well as they prepare for their External Examinations. Your hard work has brought you to this point. Make full use of your lessons, the resources available to you and your teachers’ assistance as you prepare for each examination.
