Season of Creation

Blessing of the Animals

As a Franciscan community, Mount Alvernia College was proud to mark the Feast of St Francis of Assisi (4 October), celebrating the enduring legacy of a man whose message of peace, simplicity, humility and care for creation continues to inspire people around the world. This year was particularly significant, marking 800 years since St Francis first shared his vision of living in harmony with God, one another and the natural world.

To conclude the season of creation, students, staff and their beloved pets gathered in La Foresta this week for our annual Blessing of the Animals Liturgy, led by Sister Catherine White. La Foresta was filled with joy as cherished animal companions joined our community for a celebration of the unique bond shared between humans and animals.

Drawing on the example of St Francis, who saw all creatures as part of God's creation, the liturgy invited us to pause and give thanks for the animals that enrich our lives through their companionship, loyalty and unconditional love. It was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the interconnectedness of all living things and our shared responsibility to care for the world around us.

The morning was filled with smiles, gratitude and a deep sense of community, providing a heartwarming reminder that the Franciscan spirit is alive and well at Mount Alvernia College. Through moments such as these, we continue to nurture a culture of compassion, stewardship and respect for all creation. 💚
