SPECIALIST FEATURE NEWS
你好 nǐ hǎo to our wonderful community!
It has been great to get back into the art room, starting some of our creative projects for this term! Read below for an overview of what we have started working on;
Foundation students have been exploring colour through different materials and media, including pastel, watercolour, paint sticks and crayon. After creating their own colourful and unique 'beautiful mess' last term, they start Term 2 off with another open-ended task titled 'Eye use my imagination and creativity'. Students are provided with a pair of eyes as a simple starting prompt to spark their imagination and create a unique creature using the mixed media previously explored in class.
Grade 1 and 2 students are exploring the colourful work of Eric Carle. We discussed his technique of paper collage and the way he creates interesting texture in his animal and insect artworks. Before the students get stuck into making their own paper collage insects, they spent their first art sessions creating painted paper, using scraping tools to add texture.
Grade 3 and 4 students have begun thier exploration into line and pattern by studying scientific images of insects. The students are drawing birds eye view bug scapes on transparencies and are looking forward to adding colour and creating their background artwork.
Grade 5 and 6 students are exploring line and pattern by creating metallic insect drawings that show distinct lines of symmetry. This week their focus was on sketching and creating their line drawings and transferring them onto black paper.
We welcome David Kight to our Specialist team as our new P.E. teacher - we look forward to getting to know you better as the year goes on! David will continue to provide our students with an active and engaging program at MPRPS, and with Cross Country just around the corner, he is certainly off to a running start! 🏃🏻
