Principal's Message

Welcome back to Term 2. We trust you had a restful and enjoyable Easter holiday and were able to spend quality time with family and friends.

We look forward to another busy and productive term ahead, filled with learning and exciting opportunities for all students to succeed.

Staff news

Welcome back to Kate Molloy, who returns from family leave. Kate will be working on wellbeing and mental health across our school, supporting both students and staff with our programs and their delivery.

We also warmly welcome David Kight, who joins us as our new PE teacher. David brings years of experience in both physical education and classroom teaching, and we look forward to the energy and expertise he will add to our team.

We are delighted to share that Ella, Jess, and Jonny are all expecting new additions to their families this year. This is wonderful news, and we are very excited for them as they prepare to welcome their new arrivals.

Facilities works

Over the holidays, we had the Gaga Pit reinstalled in the junior playground, along with the addition of some accessible pathways to improve movement around the space for all students.

This week also marks the start of removal of the portable classroom from the oval. It has served an important role in supporting the relocation of classes while the building project was underway. As we near the completion of the project, the portable will now be relocated to another school where it will continue to be put to good use.

Cross Country

Next week we are looking forward to our Cross Country event, which will take place on Thursday. The senior students will begin their races at 9:15am, followed by the junior students at 12:40pm. This is always a fantastic opportunity for students to challenge themselves, build resilience, and enjoy some healthy competition in a supportive environment.

Students are encouraged to come dressed in their house colours to show their team spirit and help create a vibrant and energetic atmosphere on the day. Please ensure your child also brings a hat, water bottle, and wears appropriate running shoes.

To help the event run smoothly, we are seeking parent volunteers to assist with supervising the outside track during the senior races. Your support plays an important role in ensuring the safety of our students and the success of the event. If you are available to help, please contact the school office.

We look forward to a fun and active day for all involved.

Anzac Day

Today we held a special service at school to commemorate ANZAC Day. The service was led by our student leaders, who did an outstanding job in guiding the school community through this important occasion.

It was a respectful and reflective event, providing an opportunity for students and staff to honour and remember the service and sacrifice of those who have served our country.

Riversdale Conference for Principals

This week, Amanda and I attended the Riversdale conference with local Principals. The sessions were led by Bronwyn Ryrie Jones, a highly regarded expert in responsive teaching and evidence-informed practice.

Bronwyn Ryrie Jones is well known for her work in helping teachers use short cycle assessment data to better understand student progress and tailor instruction to meet individual learning needs. Her approach emphasises clear  ongoing feedback, and the use of targeted oppurituities to reposnd to ensure all students are supported and challenged appropriately.

The conference provided valuable insights and practical strategies to strengthen classroom practice, with a strong focus on improving student outcomes through responsive and adaptive teaching. Amanda and I look forward to sharing our learning with staff and embedding these approaches into our teaching and learning programs across the school.

AEU Strike Action

As parents and carers know, staff at our school who are members of the Australian Education Union (AEU) have been involved in long-running negotiations with the state government and the Department of Education for improved pay and conditions.

Despite an increased number of ongoing negotiations and the commencement of industrial action, including the statewide full day stopwork last term, there is still no fair offer on the table to address the key issues facing public school staff. Victoria’s public schools remain the lowest funded in the country, teachers are the lowest paid, with education support staff and school leaders underpaid as well. School staff also continue to face significant workload pressures. Staffing shortages continue to be experienced in public schools across the state.

As part of the campaign, AEU members will be taking further industrial action, including half-day stopworks on a rolling, region-by-region basis. This means each school will be affected once. We understand this can cause disruption for students and families. Staff are taking this action because they care deeply about public education and want to see our schools properly funded, and to receive fair pay and conditions, all of which are critical to a prosperous future for Victoria’s public school students.

Union members at our school will stop work for half a day on June10th. We will continue to keep families informed about any action that may affect our school community.
