Text Study Years 3-6
For our text study units this term, we invited families to contribute towards purchasing a copy of the class text.
This decision came from feedback from both staff and students highlighting the value of having physical books, rather than relying on devices or photocopied excerpts.
Having a shared class text means all students are engaging with the same story, creating a strong sense of connection and a shared reading experience within the classroom.
For many students (and adults), reading a hard copy text enhances focus, allows for easy rereading, and supports deeper engagement through note-taking and highlighting.
We support students in a variety of ways to ensure everyone can access the text, including shared reading with a peer or teacher and opportunities to listen to the story being read aloud. Students are also extended in their learning through engaging with deeper-level questions and discussions about the text.
It’s been wonderful to see our Year 3/4 students already enjoying this experience with their text 'The Sugarcane Kids and the Red-Bottomed Boat and our Year 5/6 students will begin their text, 'Sister Heart' next week.
We sincerely thank the families who were able to contribute, your support has made a meaningful difference to student learning. At the end of the unit, families who purchased a copy will have the option to keep the book or donate it back to the school for future use.
