CSIRO Scientists in Schools program

The CSIRO Scientists in Schools program is a national initiative designed to integrate real-world science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) into the educational environment. This complimentary program fosters dynamic partnerships between Australian educators and STEM professionals, offering students engaging and pertinent STEM learning experiences.

These collaborations not only support teachers in delivering the Australian Curriculum but also inspire students to pursue careers in STEM fields. Participants benefit from a wealth of resources, professional development opportunities, and networking events, all aimed at enhancing the educational journey.

Yarrabing is currently linked with Graham Downs, who works as a Communications Engineer at Telstra, who visited Year 7 STEAM classes this term to introduce himself, as well as provide some insight to both his job and feedback for student designed cranes.

Lockheed CyberQuest Competition

The Lockheed Martin CYBERQUEST® Competition is an annual event aimed at encouraging high school students to pursue careers in cybersecurity. This competition, held across multiple sites, challenges teams of students to solve complex cybersecurity problems in a Capture the Flag (CTF) format. Students competed against Australia, Singapore and New Zealand in the Asia Pacific region on Friday 28th March. Participants work in teams to tackle these challenges over a three-hour period.

The competition includes multi-step intrusion scenarios, steganography, reverse engineering, full OS hacks, packet capture, web exploits, social engineering, and cybersecurity awareness. . The competition is designed to test and expand students' cybersecurity skills, providing a practical and engaging learning experience.

Yarrabing is excited to participate in this competition, promoting an understanding of cybersecurity and inspire them to consider careers in this critical field and develop their skills for the future.
