From the Principal

First Term Reflections
The term still has been a busy one with many events and activities being at the core of our work with our school community. Events included our Year 7 Fieldwork Excursion to the nearby section of Kororoit Creek as part of their Geography unit, the Year 8 Grand Prix as part of the college’s connectedness and relationship building program, as well as Interschool Sporting events just to name a few. Events such as these help to send a clear message that high expectations are set for all students, and that the student sense of connectedness and belonging is paramount for successful student engagement and outcomes.
At our various assemblies and events with students, we continually stress the need for students to work with their teachers to achieve their highest level in their learning. We also emphasise our school values of Respect, Responsibility, High Expectations and Collaboration.
Parent/Teacher/Student interviews
On Wednesday 2nd April, 2025 we will be offering an interview opportunity for the classroom teacher, student and parents to discuss the student’s learning. The teacher facilitates the interview and guides the student and parent through the process.
Throughout the interviews parents and the teacher are encouraged to ask questions, provide feedback and encouragement to the student and to share their thoughts and ideas on what is being presented and on what goals or targets they think are appropriate. In short, three-way interviews provide a forum for teachers, students and parents to acknowledge student progress and achievement. They are a valuable avenue for involving parents and students in the learning process and helping parents understand the teaching, learning, assessment and reporting process. The three-way interview has benefits for teachers, parents and the school.
Information has been sent home to families to allow them to book online via Compass.
2026 Year 7 Information Evening
The College held our 2026 Year 7 Information Evening on Wednesday 26th March, 2025. It gave our Leadership staff the opportunity to introduce themselves to these prospective parents and students, and to outline to them the many proactive and positive programs that we have to offer.
We looked forward to meeting our new prospective students and their families in the second last week of term 1.
New Yarrabing Secondary College School Enrolment Boundary
I have recently been notified that with the introduction of the newly built government secondary school in Cobblebank (opening for Year 7 students in 2026), our current Yarrabing school enrolment boundary will change for 2026 Year 7 student enrolments.
My current understanding is that changes will occur in the western part of Yarrabing’s boundary; with the exact boundary being announced by the Department on the Tuesday 25th March, 2025.
The new boundaries will be published on the “Find My School” website for all to see.
And Finally……
I do remind our families that school will end for the term at 2:30pm on Friday 4th April and start again at the usual time on Tuesday 23rd April, 2025.
Finally, I would like to wish our students, staff and families a very safe and happy Easter. I hope you all manage to have a well-deserved break.
