BOOK OF THE YEAR
On Friday 16 August the Children’s Book Council of Australia announced the winners of the 2024 CBCA Book of The Year awards. The announcement always signals the start of Book Week. The awards, which commenced in 1946 are the most influential and highly respected in Australia. The judging panel consists of highly regarded educators, librarians, authors and professionals who have a background in publishing. The shadow judging panel is a more recent addition to the awards which calls on young voices from across Australia to choose their own winners.
The winner in the Older Readers category was Grace Notes by Karen Comer.
In the same category, the shadow judges awarded Inkflower by Suzy Zail
The winner in the Younger Readers category was unanimous from the judging panel and shadow judges. The winner was Scar Town by Tristan Bancks.
For more information about all the winning and honour book see the CBCA website: https://cbca.org.au/winners-2024/
BOOK WEEK
The school will be marking Book Week with many activities across the week. The library will be conducting Blind Date with a Book.
Library staff have selected and wrapped a collection of books, leaving a few clues about the book inside. Our students pick one that interests them without seeing the cover and then embark on an unknown reading journey!!
WORLD BOOK ENCYCLOPEDIA
The library has recently purchased the latest edition of the World Book Encyclopedia in print. The 2024 encyclopedia is a worthwhile addition to the library and is an excellent reference tool to jumpstart student research. From looking up information to understand a subject or checking a fact for a homework assignment the encyclopedia is credible and authoritative.
