DEPARTMENT OF TREASURY AND FINANCE’S MENTORING WOMEN’S PROGRAM

A couple weeks ago, I had the honour to join the Department of Treasury and Finance’s Mentoring Women’s Program. The DTF Mentoring Women’s Program is a program that they have been running for the past few years with the aim to foster and deepen knowledge for those women with an interest in economics.

As a Year 12 economics student, I thought this was a great opportunity to not only learn more about economics as a career profession but also further my understanding of budgetary and government policies. My goal from this program was to learn how various regulations and policies affect the production sectors in Australia, ranging from, subsidies to the implementation of environmental taxes.

My mentor, senior economist of industry innovations, and I have been working on developing these through identifying current policies which work towards this and understanding their impact. This program not only offers one on one learning experiences for high school and university students, but emphasis on helping build industry networks for future support and generating hands on economic encounters in the workplace.
