CAPTAIN'S CORNER

SENIOR CAPTAIN

As the term hits the halfway point, time has flown by with numerous activities and events taking place throughout the past few weeks. For us Year 12s, we are keeping busy with a never-ending cycle of study, as we approach our final SACs in each subject over the next month, before exam revision begins.

The school captains and I have had an exciting time over the past month or two putting together a brand-new project - the McKinnon School Captains Podcast! As leaders of the school, we all wanted to do something different that hasn’t been done before, so what better than a podcast for fellow students and the wider McKinnon Secondary community to listen to.

With the help of Ms Jobson, we recorded the first episode at the East Campus podcast recording facilities and have now edited the finished product. In our first episode, we have done a review of Semester 1, speaking about all major events, camps and anything else interesting that took place in the first two terms.

You can listen to our podcast here! We welcome your feedback and hope you enjoy it.

Although we haven’t got much time left in our journey at McKinnon, we hope that the podcast can continue next year and beyond.

There is plenty to look forward to for all year levels as the end of Term 3 gets closer. I wish the best of luck to everyone in their studies, especially the senior school - the seemingly constant stream of SACs is almost done.

JUNIOR CAPTAIN

McKinnon’s motto of Wisdom and Service runs deep within our community. Year 9 students currently undertaking the Wisdom and Service subject are completing a Community Service project. For this, each student either by themselves or within a group must design an action plan to better the community.

These projects can take many forms. They could be directly impacting the community or putting plans in place to fix certain issues.

One such example of these efforts is FutureMentors. This is a platform designed by Alexandru Virbanescu (9H), Alisa Krivulin (9G), Sofia Kovalenko (9G) and Richelle Wu (9G).

We created FutureMentors so that members of the school community could get in touch with their peers for educational opportunities in the form of affordable tutoring. We encourage everyone to take a look at our platform (linked below) and contact our email on the page for any further information.

Market Day and Cultural Diversity Week are two events on the horizon. Here at East Campus this year will mark our first Market Day. This event where students become vendors selling food items or anything else of their choosing has been successfully running at the McKinnon Rd Campus for a few years now.

Cultural Diversity Week is an event spanning five days at both campuses with exciting activities planned by staff and students. It is a week where we have lots of fun while learning about different cultures. Like Market Day there will also be food stalls, this time themed on cultural food.
