Curie House

Article by Phoebe S and Sophie H - Curie House Leaders

On Monday 27 July, the House Captains came together to attend the Years 4–6 House Athletics Carnival. It was a fantastic day filled with exciting events, outstanding performances and incredible house spirit.

One of the highlights of the day was a Year 6 student clearing an incredible 1.45 m in the high jump. Another highlight was the Girls 100 m Sprint, where each heat was fast and competitive, with several races ending in close finishes.

The day was a huge success, with students showing determination, sportsmanship and enthusiasm. Keilor Athletics Track was filled with cheering, encouragement and colourful house spirit as everyone gave each event their very best. Students competed in a range of track and field events, including sprints, jumps and throwing events. No matter where they placed, every student should be proud of the effort they put in and the positive attitude they showed.

Another highlight was the way each House came together to support one another. House Captains, teachers and students cheered on everyone representing their house, creating an encouraging atmosphere where everyone felt included and motivated to do their best. It was wonderful to see students celebrating each other's achievements and showing respect for everyone.

A huge thank you goes to the teachers, staff, volunteers and student leaders who helped organise the day and kept each event running smoothly. Their hard work made the Carnival enjoyable and memorable for everyone.

Congratulations to all students who participated, and placed in the top 2 of their events, they will now train for the district athletics competition in the following weeks. The Athletics Carnival wasn't just about winning, it was about teamwork, having a go and supporting one another. The effort, determination and House pride shown by every student made the day a very successful one.

The 2026 4-6 Athletics Carnival was great to be part of. The energy was lively and it was great to see so many students encouraging one another. Students participated in an array of track and field events as well as novelty events. The students showcased their skills and passions in these different events through teamwork and determination.

As Year 8 House Leaders it was a great opportunity to support our younger peers and help out with different events. We were able to remind students of the importance of just having a go, and not worrying about their place. A highlight for us was being able to help our teachers and get involved in different roles throughout the day as well as seeing students get involved.

Curie, Pasteur, Edison and Newton excelled in each and every way with high participation and enthusiasm.

The Athletics Carnival was a wonderful experience. Everyone was trying new things, cheering on their friends, and competing in activities that many excelled in.

The environment was filled with joy, laughter, adrenaline, and excitement. The day was not only about winning, but also about having a go, competing with friends, and cheering each other on from the sidelines.

As a House Captain, it was great to see Edison have so many participants in every race and event, including the novelty events.
