State Cross Country

This well-travelled group of athletes headed to Yarra Glen to compete in the School Sport Victoria State Cross Country Championships for 2025. Ahren (14), Juliette (17-20), Alex, Taydyn, Patrick and Campbell all (17-20) flew the flag for BSC on a sunny but chilly day in the Yarra Valley.

With close to 100 competitors in each race from all corners of Victoria, the excitement and nervousness could be felt in the air. Having completed their warmup drills extensively, the students attended the briefing room for race instructions from race officials. As one student from another school found out the hard way, football boots are not an approved running shoe at this level. Luckily, he had a pair of runners handy as bare feet are also a no-no. Once marshalled to the start line, the large group were like a swarm of bees leaving the hive out onto the course where they quickly spread out.

It was encouraging to see our students run their own race, with some of the fastest opposition runners completing the course in near professional junior times. All six BSC students finished in style and were happy with their times and efforts. It does not go unnoticed what lengths our students go to, to represent themselves and our college throughout the year, congratulations and thank you.

Gippsland Senior Hockey

Outstanding effort to the BSC Senior Hockey team winning 15 – 0 against Marist Sion College from Warragul. With Ayrton claiming 6 goals and Alex 4, we had our eye in early spreading the rest of the scoring through the team so they could feel the joy also. Progressing through to State championships for the second year in a row, we wish this team and their coaches the very best of luck.

Gippsland Senior Soccer

We have all heard the saying “winners are grinners”, well, this was very much the case for the Senior Soccer team this week. Having drawn their first game against a very good Traralgon SC, we had to beat Chairo Drouin by 2 goals to win the day. Our heads dropped after conceding a goal halfway through the first half, all but for a few minutes before steadying the team to score an equaliser by halftime. The second half was an absolute adrenalin boost with the team working beautifully together to score 3 more goals, with no reply from the opposition. As the siren sounded, the jubilation and realisation that we were also progressing to State level championships washed over them. Enjoy the challenge ahead, we are right behind you!

Gippsland Year 8 Soccer

For the second year, this team made it to regional level competing at the Trafalgar Recreation Reserve against some slick opposition. With no need to mention the scorelines, we focus on the positives that are many. Improved game play throughout the day, communication skills were excellent, and their resilience shone bright amongst heavy clouds of pressure. Stick with it team, as our moto says, “Through opportunity and commitment, comes success”.
