YEAR 8 DRAMA

Commedia dell'Arte is a vibrant style of theatre that began in 16th century Italy, known for its exaggerated characters, physical comedy, improvisation, and distinctive half-masks. Its stock characters — such as Brighella the cunning servant or Pantelone foolish old master — have influenced comedy for centuries.

Our Year 8 Drama elective have been exploring Commedia through character research and hands-on mask design and construction. They have investigated traditional character types and created their own expressive masks, developing both their performance skills and their creativity. Ms Handley is looking forward to seeing the students morph into these characters and the hilarious scenarios that present.
