THE VILLAGE

The Village: Supporting Student Wellbeing Together
In each edition, we share evidence-based resources and practical strategies that align with our school’s approach to wellbeing. Our focus is on connection, positive behaviour, inclusion, and early support. Ensuring students feel safe, supported, and ready to learn. From mental health information to strategies that build resilience and respectful relationships, The Village is designed to empower families with knowledge that reflects the work happening inside our classrooms every day.
Pop Culture Parenting
Throughout the year, we will continue to reference trusted wellbeing sources that support our whole-school approach. One of these is the Pop Culture Parenting podcast, which combines developmental research with practical advice for adults supporting young people.
Pop Culture Parenting is a podcast hosted by developmental paediatrician Dr Billy Garvey and co-host Nick that uses popular films to unpack evidence-based insights about parenting, behaviour, and supporting young people’s development.
To begin the year, we are revisiting their episode “10 Things I Hate About You and Success in School.” This episode explores what truly helps students experience success, not just academically, but socially and emotionally. It highlights the importance of connection, high expectations paired with support, and recognising effort over perfection. At the start of a new school year, when students are navigating transitions, new routines, and fresh challenges, these themes are especially relevant.

In our next edition, we will celebrate the strong and positive start many of our students have made. It has been fantastic to see students returning with enthusiasm, pride, and a willingness to engage and we look forward to highlighting these successes.
