Hi Everyone,
How exciting that Spring is in the air! It's been lovely to see the sun shining and some warmer weather on the way. A friendly reminder that students should be wearing their MEPS wide-brimmed hats. We will remind students over the speaker and at assembly, but please check with your child to see if they have their school hat ready to go!
I've been lucky enough to support our Year 3 and Year 6 team's in organising their camps. I say lucky because there's just something special about a school camp. For many students, it's the first time they've spent a night away from home and it marks an important milestone in their journey through primary school — a true rite of passage. This week, our Year 3 students returned from their first ever camp experience at Golden Valleys and we could not be prouder of them.
Throughout the camp, our students embraced our school values of Challenge, Respect, Resilience, Responsibility and Connectedness at every turn. Whether they were navigating the giant swing, trying a new activity for the first time or simply managing a night away from family, our Year 3 cohort showed real courage in stepping outside their comfort zones. These are the moments that build confidence and character — the kind of growth that doesn't happen in a classroom but stays with a child for years to come.
None of this would be possible without the incredible support of our staff. A huge thank you to our Year 3 teaching team, our ES team members, Mr Thresher and our Parent Volunteers for giving up their time to attend camp and ensure every student felt supported, safe and encouraged to give things a go. Your dedication does not go unnoticed and it's what makes experiences like this so memorable for our students. We wish our Year 6 students, ES Team, Teachers and Parent Volunteers good luck with their 3-day camp at Bayview Adventure Camp in Grantville next week!
Back at school, the learning has been just as impressive. As we approach the end of term, classrooms are buzzing with energy as some brilliant integrated projects are being finalised. It has been a genuine pleasure to read some highly engaging stories written by our Year 4 students — their creativity and effort really shine through and it's a wonderful reminder of the incredible things happening in our classrooms every single day, learning is magical.
A reminder that next week is Planning Week. Our teaching teams will spend the day working together on curriculum overviews and lesson sequences to ensure our students have a rich and well-structured Term 4 learning program. To make this possible, students will have all of their specialist sessions on one day next week. Thank you in advance for your flexibility and support as our staff invest this important time into planning for your child's continued learning.
Finally, we want to send a huge, good luck to our District Athletics team as they head off to compete next week. Over 55 MEPS students will be proudly representing our school and showing off their athletics skills — what an incredible effort! A special thank you must go to Ms McLaughlin and Mrs Roberts for their tireless work in organising House Athletics and preparing our District team. Your efforts behind the scenes make these opportunities possible for so many of our students, and we are so grateful for everything you do.
Mrs Merritt is travelling back towards Melbourne now, so this will be last my newsletter for the year. I wish you all a safe and wonderful break at the end of term.
