Champagnat Celebration Dinner
Our boarders celebrated Champagnat Week last week, with a traditional French menu on Thursday night. Invited guests included the Marist Brothers community, St Augustine’s, and St Monica’s staff. Champagnat Day was a meaningful opportunity for the community to come together in unity and celebrate the significance of the occasion.
Free weekend
It's a free weekend in boarding, and those who've applied for leave must be back in residence by 8pm Sunday or on Monday morning if approved by the head of residence.
End-of-term departures and arrivals for Term 3
As we approach the end of Term 2, boarders who travel home by air or on buses, will be planning for a smooth and timely departure from boarding. The final day of term for both colleges is Thursday 26 June. The last day of term has always been a travel day for boarders at St Augustine’s who travel long distances to go home. Boarding appreciates that some students must leave earlier due to flight schedules. Weekly boarders are always expected to remain at school until the final lesson of the term. If, for any reason, a boarder is leaving school before Thursday of the final week, their family must give the day school a completed Request for Student Absence form.
In planning for Term 3, boarding residences open on Monday 14 July from 3pm, and all boarders are expected back in residence by 8pm. St Augustine's is also holding parent-teacher-student interviews for all year levels on the Monday.
Families, please send in travel itineraries for airport pickups well in advance so the transport schedule can be organised. This information should be sent to heads of residence, who will pass it on to our Transport Coordinator.
Boarders of the Week
Congratulations to our Boarders of the Week recipients over the past few weeks. These students have been making a difference in residence, and their positive contributions have been noteworthy.
Juniors Girls – Esther Gibuma and Evangeline Barnes
Junior Boys – Levi Lergessner and Trey Tapim
Seniors Girls – Alexis Cavallaro and Makayla Norman
Senior Boys – Oscar Masterman and Oscar Dowell
Ambrose Residence refurbishment
The boarding community is excited to receive the news that the second and final stage of the Ambrose Building refurbishment will be completed over the coming break, and our Year 10 boys will return to Lower Ambrose at the start of Term 3. We have been very fortunate with government funding over the past couple of years, and this has greatly assisted us in the 2.7 million dollar refurbishment of the junior girls and senior boys residences.
Senior formals
St Augustine’s and St Monica’s look forward to hosting their senior formals over the next couple of weeks. Both events will be held at the Pullman International. As the Saints formal is held on a school night, Year 12 boarders who have requested overnight leave, must be signed out of the boarding residence by their parents next Wednesday, and return to the College for the 10am start the following day. Boarders who have not requested overnight leave and do not have parents attending the formal will be transported back to the College afterwards.
Weekend outings
Over the past few weekends, the boarding community has been involved in a variety of enjoyable activities in Cairns and surrounding areas. There have been outings to Palm Cove, the Esplanade, Earl Hill, Trinity Beach and Nandroya Falls. We look forward to hosting a boarders camp next term when the College secures one of its two new buses.
