Intermediate Girls and Boys & Senior Girls Netball

It has been another outstanding netball season for the College culminating in three teams competing in the Western Metropolitan Region finals. Both the Senior Girls and the Intermediate Boys made it through to their respective grand finals, losing narrowly to claim the Runners Up titles.  The Intermediate Girls also performed well in what was a very challenging pool. The Western Metro Region consists of over 100 schools, many of which are sporting academies or schools with dedicated sports programs.  We consistently exceed expectations and perform at a very, very high standard and we’re very proud of all our netball stars.

Senior Girls - Runners Up - Western Metropolitan Final

On 5 August the senior team travelled to Altona to compete in the regional finals. The girls knew they were in for a tough day as they were set to play several sports academy schools. The day commenced with a polished performance against Williamstown where we won by 15. The second pool match was a feisty affair against The Grange, again our girls dominated and kept their cool under physical pressure. The final pool match against the highly fancied Western Heights was a true battle. Coming down to the wire GSC held on for a 1 goal victory to get into the final. The final itself was against a classy Maribyrnong team whose speed, pressure and accuracy where admirable. Our girls should be proud of how they approached the game and kept fighting to the end.

Across the day Lucy D was phenomenal in defence, taking intercept after intercept, Holly B was dynamic in the mid court and Hayley B and Charlie B were a formidable combination in the circle. 

Pleasingly our year 11 squad members got good court time across the day and highlighted the talent we have for next year. Our year 12 girls should be proud of their netball journey and achievements while at GSC. It has been a pleasure coaching them over the past three years!

Runners Up - Western Metropolitan final

Congratulations to the intermediate boys AFL team who were runners up in the final of the Western Metropolitan competition - a region made up of over 100 schools including some that specialise as sporting academies.  The event coordinator commented to the effect that GSC team captain Riley E's post-game speech "I've been doing this a long time and that was one of the best speeches I have heard, I can see why you were named captain".   That's some serious high praise and recognition of amazing leadership by Riley.
